Concrete Leveling Services

A slab that has dropped an inch or two is more than an eyesore. It catches toes, tips rainwater toward your foundation and makes the lip at the garage scrape your bumper. Golden Paw Concrete offers concrete leveling in Indianapolis for driveways, sidewalks, patios and walkways that have settled but are still in one piece. We lift the slab back toward level and fill the empty space underneath it. Leveling is one of our concrete services, and the in-person estimate is free.

Concrete Lifting Services for Settled Slabs

Driveways

Panels that have dropped at the garage, at the apron or along a joint.

Sidewalks and Walkways

Sections that have tipped and left a lip someone will trip on.

Patios

Slabs that now slope back toward the house or have sunk at one corner.

Pool Decks

Deck sections that have settled and opened gaps near the coping.

You may have heard this work called slab lifting, or what many people call mudjacking. There's more than one way to raise concrete, and the right one depends on the slab, the soil and how far it has dropped. We'll explain the method we recommend for your slab at the estimate, in plain language.

Concrete Driveway Leveling Services

Driveways are one of the most common places concrete settles. The panel by the garage door sinks because the soil beside the foundation was backfilled loosely when the house was built. The apron drops where the street gutter washes out the base. Either way, water starts running the wrong direction, and a sunken panel near the house can send it straight toward the foundation. Leveling the low panels restores the slope so water heads to the street. Need the whole driveway redone instead? See our concrete driveways page.

Signs Your Concrete Needs Leveling

  • A raised lip between sidewalk panels that catches feet or a stroller wheel.
  • Water pooling against the house, the garage or the patio door after rain.
  • A gap opening between the driveway and the garage floor.
  • A slab that rocks or sounds hollow when you step on one edge.
  • Steps or a stoop pulling away as the walk in front of them drops.

A Concrete Leveling Company That Also Pours

Because we also pour and replace concrete, we can give you an expert, honest read on which fix fits. Leveling is usually the lighter option when the slab itself is in decent shape. If the concrete is cracked into pieces, crumbling or heaved up by roots, lifting it just raises a broken slab, and we'll tell you that. No pressure either way.

Leveling works on decorative slabs too, with a catch. Lifting means drilling small holes that get patched afterward, and on stamped concrete those patches can show. We'll walk you through how it will look before you decide.

Our residential concrete page covers the rest of our work around the house. Associations use leveling to deal with sidewalk trip hazards across a neighborhood; see our HOA concrete page.

Questions & Answers

Concrete Leveling FAQs

Have another question? Visit our FAQ page or call or text (317) 672-0966.

What causes concrete to sink?

Around Indianapolis, the usual causes are clay soil that shrinks and swells, loose backfill near a foundation, and water washing soil out from under a slab, often from a downspout or a leaky gutter. Freeze-thaw and rotting tree roots add to it. Our guide to drainage and grading explains how water moves under concrete.

Should I level or replace a sunken slab?

If the slab is in one piece and the surface is in fair shape, leveling is often the better value. If it's broken into several pieces, crumbling or badly spalled, concrete removal and replacement is the stronger choice. We'll give you our honest view at the estimate.

How soon can I use the slab after leveling?

It depends on the method and the slab. We'll tell you exactly when you can walk and drive on it before the work starts, so you can plan around it.

Will leveled concrete sink again?

It can, if whatever caused the settling is still going on. Leveling lifts the slab and fills the space under it, but a downspout that keeps washing out the soil will keep causing trouble. We'll point out the likely cause so you can deal with it, which gives the lift its best chance.

What kinds of concrete can be leveled?

Driveways, sidewalks, walkways, patios and many other flat slabs that are still in one piece. Slabs that are shattered, crumbling or pushed up by roots usually need to be replaced instead.
