Concrete Garage Floor & Slab Installation
A garage floor takes more abuse than almost any slab you own. Hot tires, dripping slush, road salt and a loaded SUV parked in the same spot every night all wear on it. Golden Paw Concrete is one of the concrete garage slab contractors Indianapolis homeowners call for a new floor, a full replacement or a slab for a detached garage or shed. Garage work is one of our core concrete services, and every project starts with a free, in-person look at your site.
What Our Concrete Garage Slab Contractors Pour
New Garage Floors
Slabs for attached garages on new homes and additions, pitched so water and slush run toward the door.
Concrete Garage Floor Replacement
Tear-out of a cracked, sunken or pitted floor and a fresh pour in its place.
Detached Garage Slabs
A flat, well-drained base for a new detached garage or backyard workshop.
Shed and Equipment Pads
Smaller slabs for sheds, trash bins and outdoor equipment beside the house.
Garage Floor Repair
Cracks and flaking fixed in place when the slab underneath is still sound.
Garage Aprons
The strip between the garage door and the driveway, often poured with the floor.
As concrete pad contractors, we give a small shed pad the same care as a two-car floor: firm soil, a compacted sub-base and forms set to the agreed grade. Indianapolis clay holds water, so drainage around the slab matters too.
Not every tired floor needs to come out. If yours has a few cracks or a flaking patch but hasn't heaved or sunk, our concrete repair work may be enough. If the floor has dropped away from the foundation or broken into pieces, a full removal and replacement is usually the better spend.
Finishes for Garage Floors and Aprons
Inside the garage, most floors get a smooth troweled surface that sweeps clean and doesn't trap grit. Outside is different. Aprons and outdoor pads usually get a broom finish for grip when sleet and slush roll off your tires. If your driveway already has color, we can talk about carrying colored concrete onto the apron so the two read as one surface.

What We Watch for on a Garage Slab
The details that make a garage floor last are mostly invisible once it's poured. We check the slope so meltwater heads out the door instead of pooling under the car. Control joints get cut where the slab wants to crack anyway, so any cracking stays neat and straight. Where the floor meets the foundation and the apron, we plan the joints so the pieces can move with frost without breaking each other.
Then there's cure time. New concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks, and parking on it too early is one of the most common ways a good slab gets hurt. We'll tell you when it's ready for the car. The only paw prints in your new floor should be the ones on our logo.

Planning the Cost of a Garage Floor
Every garage slab is priced from its own scope. Size, thickness, tear-out of an old floor, how easily a concrete truck can reach the garage and whether the apron is included all move the number. Our concrete cost guide covers what drives concrete cost. If you'd like to spread out payments, ask about financing: 0% financing for 12 months, subject to credit approval.
Questions & Answers
Garage Floor FAQs
Have another question? Visit our FAQ page or call or text (317) 672-0966.
How thick should a garage floor be?
As general guidance, many residential garage floors are poured around 4 inches thick. A heavy truck, a camper or shop equipment can call for a thicker slab or added reinforcement, and a firm, compacted sub-base matters as much as the thickness. We set it in your written scope after we see the site. Our guide to concrete thickness and reinforcement explains the tradeoffs.
Should a garage floor slope toward a drain?
Most garage floors are pitched slightly toward the overhead door, so melting snow and salty slush run out instead of pooling. Some homeowners also want a floor drain. That usually involves plumbing and local rules, so we talk it through at the consultation before anything goes in the scope.
Can you pour a slab for a detached garage?
Yes. A detached garage or workshop slab needs to be flat where the walls sit, set at the right height for the door and graded so water drains away from it. If the project needs a permit, we apply for it.
Is the garage apron part of the job?
It can be. Old aprons often crack where they meet the driveway or sink near the door, so replacing the apron with the floor makes sense on many jobs. It shows up as its own line in your estimate. For apron work on its own, see our driveway extensions and aprons page.
Can I put a coating on my new garage floor?
Coatings are a separate trade from pouring, so plan on a coating installer for that step. New concrete has to cure before anything goes on top; many coating makers ask for about a month. Tell us at the consultation if a coating is in your plans, and we'll factor that into the finish.
