Concrete Step & Porch Installation

Concrete steps are the first thing guests touch and the last thing you want to slip on in January. Golden Paw Concrete builds new concrete steps and porches, replaces crumbling ones and handles step repair when the base is still sound. Every set is custom. We measure the rise from your walk or driveway to the door, lay out even treads and pour steps that fit your house, not a catalog. Steps are one of our concrete services for homes and properties around Indianapolis.

Concrete Steps and Porches We Build

New Front Steps and Stoops

Entry steps sized to your door, your walk and the landing in between.

Concrete Porches

Larger landings with room to stand while you find your keys, or for a couple of chairs.

Concrete Step Replacement

Tear-out of steps that have cracked, settled or pulled away from the house.

Concrete Step Repair

Fixes for chipped edges, flaking treads and small cracks when the steps haven't moved.

Back Door Steps

Steps down from a back door or slider onto a patio or the yard.

Steps Into a Slope

A run of steps cut into a hillside yard, often paired with a retaining wall.

Hillside steps usually go hand in hand with a concrete retaining wall that holds the soil on either side. We plan both together so the steps and the wall meet cleanly.

Concrete Step Contractors Who Sweat the Details

Steps look simple. They aren't. Every riser in a run needs to match closely, because people trip on the one step that's a little taller than the rest. Treads should shed water instead of holding a puddle that turns to ice overnight. The top landing has to sit at the right height below the door threshold, and the whole set has to stay tied to the house as the ground freezes and thaws.

Most failing steps share the same story. Water got under them, the soil settled, and the steps tipped or pulled away from the foundation. Downspouts that dump right beside the stoop make it worse. We look at where water goes before we form anything.

Salt is the other enemy. De-icing salt soaks into the surface and helps freeze-thaw pop off flakes, and our workmanship warranty doesn't cover salt damage. Our guide to de-icing salt and concrete explains safer ways to keep steps clear.

Finishes for Steps and Porches

A broom finish is the practical choice for treads because it grips in wet weather. For a porch landing that matches a patio, stamped concrete adds a stone or slate look, and we'll talk through traction on the treads before you choose. Exposed aggregate gives a pebbled surface with plenty of grip and hides dirt well.

What Steps Cost and How to Pay

Step projects vary a lot: the number of risers, the size of the landing, tear-out of old steps and the finish all change the price. Our concrete cost guide explains what drives concrete cost. You can also ask about financing options, with 0% financing for 12 months, subject to credit approval.

Questions & Answers

Concrete Steps FAQs

Have another question? Visit our FAQ page or call or text (317) 672-0966.

Should I repair or replace my concrete steps?

Repair makes sense when the damage is on the surface: small cracks, chipped edges or light flaking on steps that haven't moved. If the steps have settled, tipped, pulled away from the house or cracked through, replacement is usually the honest answer. Our repair or replace guide walks through the signs.

Do concrete steps need a handrail?

Often, yes. Building codes usually call for a handrail once a set of steps reaches a certain height or number of risers, and the exact rules depend on where you live. Even when it isn't required, a rail helps on icy mornings. We go over it at the consultation and handle any permit the project needs.

How tall should each step be?

Building codes set a maximum riser height and a minimum tread depth, and they expect the steps in a run to match closely. Uneven steps are a common trip hazard. We measure the total rise from the ground to the door and divide it into even steps that meet the rules for your property.

What decorative finishes work on steps?

Broom texture, stamped patterns, exposed aggregate and color all work on steps. Many homeowners match the steps to a patio or walk. Integral colored concrete is a popular way to warm up a plain gray stoop.

Can new steps tie into a patio?

Yes. Steps from a back door onto a patio are often poured as part of the same project, which lets the finish and color match. See our concrete patios page for the patio side of the job.
