Concrete Removal & Replacement
Some concrete can be patched. Some can't. When a driveway is crumbling or a patio has heaved into a tripping hazard, concrete replacement is usually the better investment. Golden Paw Concrete handles both halves of the job: concrete removal and a new pour built for Indiana's freeze-thaw winters. It's one of the core concrete services we offer Indianapolis property owners.
Professional Concrete Replacement From Tear-Out to Final Pour
If the old concrete failed because of a weak base, poor drainage or tree roots, a new slab poured the same way will fail the same way. A professional replacement starts by figuring out why the old concrete gave up. Then we fix that cause first.
When Replacement Beats Repair
Hairline cracks, small chips and minor surface wear can often be handled with concrete repair. Replacement makes sense when the problems run deeper:
- Cracks that keep widening or have shifted out of level
- Large sections that have sunk, heaved or broken apart
- Widespread flaking and scaling from years of road salt
- Water pooling against the house or garage because the slab slopes the wrong way
- Concrete so patched that one more patch won't help

Old concrete is broken up and removed, often cut along existing joints when only part of a slab is coming out. Then the ground underneath tells the story: soft spots, washed-out base, roots. The base is rebuilt and compacted, forms are set to the right slope, and the new concrete is placed and left to cure. Your written scope lists every step.
A Chance to Upgrade the Finish
Starting over means you're not stuck with plain gray. A fresh broom finish is a solid, slip-resistant choice. You could also switch to stamped concrete for a patio, add colored concrete, or pick exposed aggregate for a textured driveway. We'll bring samples so you can compare in person.

Budgeting for Replacement
Removal adds work that a pour on open ground doesn't have, and the cost FAQ below explains what drives the number. Ask about financing: 0% financing for 12 months, subject to credit approval. We pour March through November, and winter is a great time to get an estimate and book spring work.
Questions & Answers
Concrete Replacement Questions

What does it cost to replace a concrete driveway or patio?
Cost comes down to slab size, thickness, equipment access, the amount of removal, base repairs and the finish you choose. Our concrete cost guide explains how those drivers work, and your free estimate gives you an exact figure for your project.
Should I repair or replace my concrete?
If the slab is level and the damage is on the surface, a repair may be enough. If it's sunk, heaved or draining toward the house, replacement usually costs less in the long run. Our repair or replace guide walks through the signs.
What happens to the old concrete?
Removal is part of the job and is listed in your written scope, so you know how the old concrete leaves your property before work starts.
Can you replace one section instead of the whole slab?
If the damage is limited to a few panels between control joints, those sections can be cut out and replaced. New concrete looks lighter than old at first, and if most of the slab is failing, full replacement usually performs better.
How long does a replacement project take?
It depends on the size of the job, the weather and how much base work the site needs. After the pour, the concrete also needs time to cure before it carries weight. We talk through the expected timeline at your consultation.
What about the lawn and landscaping around the slab?
Forms and equipment need room along the edges, so the grass next to the slab gets disturbed. We talk about access and nearby plantings at the consultation.
