Concrete Driveway Extensions & Aprons
A second car, a teenager's first truck, a boat that needs a home. Sooner or later a lot of Indianapolis driveways run out of room. A concrete driveway extension adds parking without a full replacement. Golden Paw Concrete plans each extension, apron and widening as part of our concrete services, with a clean tie-in to the driveway you already have.
Custom Concrete Driveway Extension Projects
No two lots are the same. Some need a strip along one side, others a pad reaching the backyard gate. We design each extension around how you park and where the water goes.
Driveway Widening
Extra width so two cars fit side by side without stepping on grass.
Side Parking Pads
A pad beside the driveway for an RV, trailer, boat or work truck.
Aprons and Approaches
The section at the street, often the first part to crack and sink.
Extensions Before a Full Replacement
If the main driveway is still sound, an extension adds room now.
Driveway Widening for Extra Parking
Many driveways were poured for one or two cars, and families outgrow them. A wider slab keeps tires off the lawn and mud off the concrete. We look at drainage first, because a new strip of concrete changes where rainwater runs. Nobody wants a puddle at the side door.
Concrete Driveway Apron and Approach Work
The driveway approach, or apron, takes the hardest hits. Snowplows clip it, and salty slush from the street sits on it all winter. When it cracks or sinks, a new concrete driveway apron can fix the problem without touching the rest of the driveway. Work near the street can involve the city or town, so we check what your project needs, and when a permit is required, we apply for it.
Driveway Extension Contractors Who Plan the Tie-In
The joint where new meets old is where good driveway extension contractors earn their keep. If it isn't planned, the new section can settle on its own and leave a lip that catches shovels. Your written scope spells out how the new concrete connects to the existing slab, how the base is prepared, and where control joints go.
Finishes That Match or Stand Out
Most extensions match the existing driveway, which usually means a broom finish. If your driveway shows stone, we can talk about exposed aggregate. Some homeowners use the extension as a design moment instead, with a stamped concrete border or a band of colored concrete that frames the old and new together.
Who Asks for Driveway Extensions
Homeowners can see the rest of what we do around the house on our residential concrete page. Landlords adding tenant parking can see how we handle property management concrete. Our post on driveway extensions in Clermont, IN answers the common planning questions.
How an Extension Project Works
It starts with an in-person consultation. We measure and check drainage. You review and approve a written, itemized estimate, and we discuss financing if you want it. A 50% deposit gets you on the schedule, and we apply for any necessary permits. After the pour, we walk the extension with you, and the remaining 50% is due when the job is complete.
Cost and Financing
Extension cost depends on the size of the new section, grading, truck access, any apron tear-out and the finish. Our concrete cost guide explains these cost drivers in more detail. Financing is available too: 0% financing for 12 months, subject to credit approval. We pour March through November, so winter is a good time to plan an extension for spring.
Questions & Answers
Driveway Extension Questions
Have another question? Visit our FAQ page or call or text (317) 672-0966.
Will the new concrete match my existing driveway?
New concrete starts out lighter than a weathered driveway, and the difference fades over time. We match the finish and texture closely and tell you honestly how the color will look on day one.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?
It depends on where you live and how close the work is to the street. Rules vary from one city or town to the next. If your project needs a permit, Golden Paw applies for it as part of the job. Our guide to concrete permits in the Indianapolis metro explains the basics.
Should I add a side parking pad or widen the whole driveway?
A side pad suits one vehicle that rarely moves, like an RV or trailer. Full widening makes more sense for daily parking and garage access. We'll show you which fits your lot.
Can you replace just the apron?
Often, yes. When the rest of the driveway is in good shape, the apron can be cut out at a joint and poured new. If the main slab is failing too, we'll tell you, and replacement might make more sense.
How is the new section tied into the old driveway?
It depends on the condition of the existing slab and how the two will move through freeze-thaw cycles. Your written scope describes the tie-in and joint layout.
